Scientific societies of Siberia in the period of the first Russian revolution of 1905-1907

The article examines the impact of the First Russian Revolution on the activities of Siberian scientific societies, their participation in the socio-political events of the country against the background of the growing crisis in 1905 - early 1906. The author presents information about the participation of scientific public organizations in the discussion on the most pressing issues of restructuring the political system of Russia, the introduction of zemstvo self-government in Siberia. The peak of revolutionary activity occurred in the autumn of 1905 - early 1906, and significantly affected the work of many public organizations. Their participation in the socio-political life of the country served as a reason for strengthening control over their activities. The situation was aggravated by the fact that members of public organizations were often active participants in the revolutionary movement. State authorities take administrative and criminal prosecution measures were against them. Based on the analysis of archival sources, published reports, materials of newspaper articles, the author establishes that the involvement of many Siberian scientific societies, their members in revolutionary events, the restriction of their activities by state authorities, and the difficult socio-economic and political situation in the country in general led to almost complete cessation of the activities of scientific societies and their research work in 1905-1907.
