The author considers little-known pages of the biography of the eminent Russian scientist and thinker, the Slavophile Alexander F. Hilferding (1831-1872). For the first time, details of his studies at the Moscow Imperial University are considered, and they are contributed to the formation of his convictions under the influence of professor, dean of the faculty of history and philology, “the great hard worker, idealist, strict Orthodox and exceptionally educated” Stepan Shevyryov. The chronological scope of the study is limited to the period of the scientific and spiritual development of Hilferding (1831-1855). The cited archival documents, most of which are being introduced for scholarly study for the first time, help to highlight some unexplored moments in the activities of the two major Russian scholars, A. Hilferding and S. Shevyryov, a student and a teacher who wrote their names in the chronicles of Moscow University, Russian science, and the religious- philosophical and socio-political thought of the 19th century.
