Tis article is devoted to the major elements in the biography and works of Alexandru Sturdza - a Russian public official, diplomat, religious philosopher, lay theologian and editorialist of the first half of the 19th century. Te author pays particular atention to the conservative and Orthodox publicism of this thinker, his original interpretation of the ideology of the Holy Alliance, and the extent of his ideological influence on the policies of the Ministry of Spiritual Affairs and Public Enlightenment in the fields of education and science. Te author atempts to establish Sturdza’s place among the ranks of Russian conservatives
