A. Siloti and S. Prokofiev: creative connections

The artistic culture of the beginning of the 20th century is the time of bold decisions and new approaches. This topic will never be exhausted, since the personality of a person considered as a carrier of culture builds the content of culture itself. The present study considers artistic relations between two iconic figures which are Sergey Sergeyevich Prokofiev and Alexander Ilyich Siloti. There are examined the moments, connected with preparation and performance of compositions of S.S. Prokofiev in “the Siloti Concerts”. The study provides the details of meetings of Siloti and Prokofiev, during which were revealed the professional and human qualities of these two bold innovators. There is identified the value of A. Siloti concerts in the culture of Petersburg in the beginning of the 20th century. The fragments of articles from “Russian Musical Newspaper”, as well as journals “Music" and “Theater and Art” show the mixed attitude towards the premiere of “Scythian Suite” at the Mariinsky Theater in 1916. The present study is commemorating the 130th birthday anniversary of S.S. Prokofiev, which will be celebrated on April 23, 2021.
