Abkhazia and the Southern Ossetia in the sphere of the geostrategic interests of Russia

The article discusses the geostrategic interests of Russia, related to recognition of independence of Abkhazia and the Southern Ossetia. The undertaken study shows that despite the uncertain future of the republics as independent states and strong economic dependence on Russia, by recognizing of their sovereignty Moscow has been able to strengthen its position in the Caucasus and to limit the presence of the foreign troops in the region.
