The incorporation of Abkhazia into the Russian empire had a positive effect on its social and economic development. Foreign trade of this Black Sea region, rich in natural resources, stimulated the internal manufacture, development of trade routes, construction of seaports, and active involvement of Abkhazia into the national market. In the XIX century Abkhazia played a prominent role in the Black Sea Caucasian segment of the Russian foreign trade.
