The issue of perpetual adaptation of a man and society to the liquid modernity is analyzed conformably to global and Russian conditions. The main topics of the article are the essence of the notions of adaptation and liquid modernity; an individual at this ‘windy road’; why the past institutions of adaptation have lost their functions; the role of mass media; and the adaptation processes under the conditions of perpetual changes. The author concludes that in the liquid world the task of any institution of adaptation is not a final product, but a new type of personality, well prepared to any changes, to act in various environments including the critical ones. The prototype of such personality had been shaped by Russian history long ago: it is a worldly-wise man.
