Adaptation of migrants: immigrant organizations and ethnic entrepreneurship

Бесплатный доступ

The article examines the problem of adaptation of migrants in host societies. Immigrant organizations and ethnic entrepreneurship are highlighted as two mechanisms promoting adaptation. It was found that for more effective adaptation it is necessary that immigrant organizations be under the control of national organizations of the receiving countries involved in the adaptation and integration of migrants into society. The hostility of the local population and lack of control by the state and civil society are considered risk factors for maladaptation and ghettoization of migrants. The role of ethnic entrepreneurship in reducing migrants' dependence on government assistance and reducing the risk of criminalization is emphasized.
