The article touches the issue concerning the conditions and features of the adaptation of the Polish exiled in the Yenisei province in the second half of the XIX century. Two stages are defined. The first stage was connected with the attempts to continue fight in the exile. A special attention is paid to the second stage when the exiled were compelled to adapt to the conditions of the exile. The preservation of the national identity (the opportunity to keep up religious and secular customs, the language and traditions), the existence of churches and Polish «communities» contributed to their successful adaptation.
