Affective disorders in irritable bowel syndrome: clinical and biochemical aspects

Tomsk, Aleutskaya Street, 4. 60 patients with IBS have been examined; mental status was added by investigations according to questionnaires of Spilberger, Tsung, and level of cortisol in serum of blood before and after treatment was studied with immune-enzyme method. For patients with IBS in various variants of course of the diseases higher levels of cortisol are typical (623,04±145,76 nmol/l) as compared with group of healthy persons (319,65±40, nmol/l) (р>0,000089). Patients with IBS without decrease of mood (up to 50 scores according to Tsung Scale) had lower indices of content of cortisol in serum of blood as compared with patients with significant decrease of mood (60 - 69 scores according to Tsung Scale) (р>0,01).
