The activity of the antioxidant defense system in multiple sclerosis

The state of individual links of the antioxidant defense system (activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, alpha-tocopherol content in erythrocyte membranes) in patients with multiple sclerosis was studied; a comparative analysis of these indicators in different phases of the disease, as well as in various variants of its course, was undertaken. It has been established that in multiple sclerosis there is a depression of the antioxidant system, most pronounced under unfavorable forms of the disease, and during the exacerbation of the pathological process.
