Islamic state terrorists’ activity in the internet: methods of recruiting young members and countermeasures

The article deals with the phenomenon of a quasi-state terrorist organization Islamic State banned in Russian Federation. The research focuses on recruiting techniques used by terrorists to gain new young members via Internet, as well as describes the potential measures to counter these efforts. The authors conclude that Islamic State has a swarm structure, and its online recruitment campaign is aggressive and large-scale by nature. In order to eliminate such a dangerous threat, both civil society and international actors must go the extra mile and reject the policy of double standards.
