Is Walter Scott acute today?

In the review the author gives a survey of the presentations given at the international conference devoted to the works of Walter Scott held at Sorbonne Paris-IV University July 5-6, 2012. The author regards the main ideas, problems and methodological approaches to the writer's works of the conference speakers, and shows how foreign researchers interpret W.Scott's works from the point of view of interaction of the corporal and spiritual. It is revealed that the proposed by the organizers point of view on W.Scott's works allows to see the "synthetic" nature of the method of verbal-image perception of the world and man used by W.Scott, who combined the romantic, sentimentalist, classic and realistic. The article deals with the problem aspects of the writer's works, which have not been studied in English Literature Studies in Russia yet.
