Topical issues of the use by police officers of effective methods of protection against dog attacks

In the article, the author gives a brief overview of the current situation with stray dogs in Russia, points out the reasons for the aggressive behavior of dogs, examines the topical issues of the use by police officers of effective methods of protection against attack by dogs, both stray and owned by citizens. To organize an effective counteraction to an aggressive animal, an ATS officer must have sufficient theoretical knowledge, tactical and special skills, skillfully apply combat fighting techniques, special and improvised means, be familiar with the behavioral characteristics of dogs, know their vulnerabilities, influencing which it is possible to neutralize the dog. The actions of the police officer must be adequate to the aggression shown by animals, taking into account their breeds, biological, physical and psychological characteristics and is within the legal framework.
