Alexander Nevsky monasteries of the Moscow region in the era of persecution of the church (1917-1933): to the 800th anniversary of the birth of the blessed prince Alexander Nevsky

The paper analyzes archival data on the history of monasteries in the Moscow region, erected in honour of St. Alexander Nevsky. 2021 marks the 800th anniversary of his birth. The author characterizes processes that took place in state-church relations at the beginning and in the first half of the twentieth century; provides facts that allow a more objective assessment of the events in the era of persecution of the Church. New archival documents on the history of convents in the villages of Akatovo and Maklakovo obtained from the Central State Archive of the Moscow region, are introduced into scientific circulation. The paper summarizes the historical experience of the spiritual and moral life of the Alexander Nevsky monasteries of the Moscow region and their role in preserving and strengthening Orthodox traditions. Practical recommendations on the use of this experience at the present stage are given.
