In February 1949, the book with the title The Truth about American Diplomats by Annabelle Bucar was published in the Soviet Union. The author was a former officer of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. The activity of her colleagues in this book was shown as very unpleasant. One year before this event, Bucar left the U.S. Embassy and married to a Soviet citizen, but she did not imagine that the fact of her transition on the side of the strategic enemy of the United States could be used as much as possible by the Soviet Intelligence services. The article analyzes how this situation has become a part of Soviet propaganda during the Cold War. Particular attention is paid to the problem of the authorship of the book, the main purpose of which was to create a negative image of American diplomacy among the Soviet readers during the period of growing confrontation between the USSR and the USA.
