An analysis of the global wildlife travel index

The calculation and publication of various ratings, top lists, grouping and ranking of countries by any indicators are among the tools of modern geopolitics. There are many ratings, but the Global Wildlife Travel Index is specifically compiled in the field of tourism. It is used to assess and compare the ecological and tourist potential of different countries of the world. The article describes a brief history of the rating. Using the example of the 2019 rating, the above-mentioned complex indicator is analyzed. During the analysis, the factors that are considered in the calculation of the «Global Index...» are indicated. The real values of some indicators are given. The study reveals the countries leading in each of the features used. The authors found inaccuracies in the use of certain quantitative criteria. Some of them have been criticized in this regard. The method of determining the integral indicator is described. It is noted that Finland, Sweden and Brazil leaded in the ranking of countries in 2019. While analyzing the authors describe the positions of the leading environmental and tourist powers (Australia, Canada, USA, Russia) in the ranking according to individual criteria and in the final comprehensive Global Wildlife Travel Index. As a result, it was concluded that the Global Wildlife Travel Index should be used guardedly in scientific research and needs for improvement.
