Analysis of the empirical basis for assessing food security in relation to crop production in the mineral cluster region

The article analyzes the main trends in the production and consumption of one of the main crops in Russia - potatoes from the point of view of reliable data as the baseline for monitoring food security. Attention is drawn to the impact of food security on the financial security and investment climate of the region. A comparison of the directions and the pace of development of trends in this area of the average Russian level and the region of raw materials orientation of the mineral and raw materials cluster, as a typical representative of which is used the Kemerovo region, is carried out. There is a similarity of trends in planting areas, potato harvesting and yield. It is pointed out that in the Kemerovo region, with similar trends, the rate of growth of potato yields is higher than the average in Russia. It is concluded that the dynamics of crop development as the starting base for calculations of food security are highly reliable.
