The article analyzes the works of the “left wing” artists in Indonesia in the 1950s, who operated during the reign of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Sukarno, in particular the works of the Indonesian artist Hendra Gunawan. The analysis of the artistic style of the master and one of his most famous paintings -“Poultry seller” is made. Hendra was one of the artists who depicted simple everyday life, low society, poverty on his canvases. He became a figure who was always admired by future generations in Indonesia. Hendra created paintings in the style of Indonesian socialist realism, which were closed to the people of Indonesia and the whole world, since the artist was arrested and imprisoned for works considered contrary to the authorities. The article analyzes the phenomenon of the art of socialist realism of the second half of the XX century as part of Indonesia's historical heritage.
