Analysis of small and medium businesses in Russia: problems and prospects for development

The article examines the development of small and medium-sized businesses as an important component of the country’s economic activity. This paper provides an analysis of the current state of SMEs in Russia, analyzes the statistics of changes in the number of operating small and medium-sized businesses for 2019-2020, also examines entrepreneurial activity in the country and the share of the SME sector in Russia’s GDP. Special attention is paid to the problems hindering the growth of entrepreneurship in the country. In addition, the article contains the main provisions of the national program aimed at the growth of entrepreneurial activity. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the current situation in the SME sector in Russia requires a comprehensive analysis aimed at identifying problems in the process of small and medium-sized businesses and proposing ways to improve the efficiency of entrepreneurship in the country. Based on the study, conclusions were formulated about current trends in the development of SMEs, as well as promising areas of state support for entrepreneurship were identified and ways were proposed to improve the efficiency of small and medium-sized businesses in Russia.
