Livestock breeding is one of the main branches of agriculture. To achieve high levels in livestock breeding, it is necessary to create a rational, balanced and strong forage base. A crucial role is played by the implementation and improvement of mechanization and automation of production processes, including feed processing. Currently, in the preparation of feed, various feed mixtures are used with feeding root crops as a component. However, before using them as fodder, it is necessary to first remove contaminants. The use of machines for the dry cleaning of root crops can reduce energy and labor costs, and is also cost-effective if compared to conventional hydromechanical cleaning methods. The article considers the disadvantages of the most common method for cleaning root crops. The advantages and disadvantages of the structure of cleaning machines based on mechanical action as the principle of operation are identified. The small spread of auger conveyor cleaners in machines for post-harvest processing, despite their widespread use in preliminary cleaning devices of root harvesting machines, is grounded. The effectiveness of using brush working bodies based on elastic elements, in particular brush ones, is evaluated. The cleaning efficiency with the combined vibration effect of the brush working bodies on the surface of the root crop is substantiated. Existing devices that provide anhydrous cleaning cannot provide the required quality as they the permissible standards of root damage or are structurally complex and unreliable. Therefore, the development of devices without any drawbacks is a crucial task for agro-industrial production.
