The analysis of production concentration indices of the industrial sector of Sverdlovsk region

The article deals with the concentration and diversification of production in the key sectors of the Sverdlovsk region ’s industry. Based on the analysis of the federal statistics, the authors trace the dynamics of the development of the manufacturing industry in the Sverdlovsk region and determine the prevailing subsectors in this industry. They analyze the concentration of production in the region, as well as the Herfindahl-Hirschman coefficient. It is concluded that the economy of the Sverdlovsk region largely depends on the metallurgical and machine-building sectors of industry, which is mainly due to historical reasons. The current situation creates a threat to the economic security of the Sverdlovsk region, negatively affects its competitiveness and contributes to a decrease in the efficiency of the regional economy.
