The article presents the results of the study of the additional education influence on the overall level of emotional competence development and on the level of its separate components development. Problem and purpose. This article analyzes the impact of additional education in the field of art and artistic activity in adolescence on the general level of emotional competence development and the level of development of its separate components. The purpose of the article is to describe the results of the above-mentioned study, to substantiate the connection between the artistic activity of a teenager and his or her emotional competence. Materials and Methods. The methodology is based on the dialectical and structural approaches, theoretical analysis of scientific literature, the psycho-metric method (“EQ Questionnaire” psycho-diagnostic technique developed by N. Hall), questioning, statistical analysis of data and a comparative method of psychological research. Results. Based on some works by E.L. Yakovleva, A.A. Melik-Pashaev, Ya.A. Ponomarev and on our own empirical data, we came to the conclusion that most effectively the level of general emotional competence is affected by additional education received simultaneously in the sphere of fine and musical arts. Mastering only one kind of arts, for example, musical, will not provide a desired level of emotional competence and self-motivation., while respondents who did not receive any additional education in the sphere of arts would fail to control their own emotions, however, they successfully managed to control their behavior. Conclusion. The research proved that artistic activity during adolescence, to some extent, affects teenagers’ emotional competence. At the same time the absence of a high level ability to manage their emotions might be a feature of ontogeny of the given period.
