The article presents the results of an analytical review of modern welding materials. The results show that the perspective material is flux cored wire. The article presents: the views and designs of flux-cored wires, the functions and composition of the flux core. The specific features of flux-cored wire at melting are described as well as the impact of flux core composition, welding mode, welding conditions and flux cored wire design on these specific features. The problems arising from the production of thick-walled pipes (up to 50 mm) of large diameter from mill products of high strength groups are formulated. The usage of the flux-cored wire is proved to be the the effective solution for the problems described.
