Anatomical and histological stucture of the lower third of the rabbit’s vagina at a border line between urogenital sinus and vagina

The study allowed researchers to clarify the anatomical and histological structure of the urogenital sinus wall at a level of its junction with the lower third of the vagina in rabbits. It has been established that at the border line between the genital and urethral sinuses, the vaginal mucosa covered by a single-layered prismatic ciliated epithelium is replaced by multilayer transitional epithelium, which is typical for the urethral mucosa. In this area, the muscular layer forms a non-closed sphincter, which obturates and separates the vagina from the urogenital sinus.
