English psychiatry of the late XVIIIth to early XIXth centuries was influenced by the philosophy of John Locke and Jeremy Bentham, which defined it's priorities and influenced on psychiatric ideas and conceptions. The social and economic situation in England during the industrial revolution also had an important impact on psychiatry's development and it defined social priorities in development of English psychiatry at that time.
