The trade and economic rivalry between England and Russia in Iran in the first third of the XIX century

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the trade and economic rivalry between England and Russia in Iran in the first third of the 19th century. The author presents an analysis of the trade dynamics between Iran and Russia, and points out the specifics of the bilateral trade. He also pays attention to the reasons of strengthening the rivalry between Russia and Great Britain at the Iran markets during the given period. The author reveals the role of the Russian diplomacy in the analysis of the market situation in Iran and the substance of the Russian diplomats’ proposals concerning the counteraction to English trade expansion to the Middle East. The article contains the conclusions on the reasons of the changes of the Russian foreign trade policy in the Iran; the author focuses on the specifics of the measures undertaken to counteract English trade expansion to the given region.
