Anna around my neck — objectification, identification and the loss of female subjectivity under the male gaze
Бесплатный доступ
The story 《Anna on the Neck》 reveals the influence of the male gaze on the image of women through the portrayal of the female character Anna. Forced to marry a wealthy official due to poverty to ensure economic security, Anna becomes an instrument of power and desire in male society. Although she gradually realizes her influence in high society, this awakening only draws her into the abyss of material wealth and vanity. However, to one-sidedly criticize Anna's downfall from a male perspective is to ignore the fact that Chekhov, through Anna's story, criticizes mercantile marriage and materialistic social reality, as well as the internal difficulties women face in the pursuit of success.
