The study investigated anonymous denunciations of citizens to the Moscow Security Department. The townsfolk concerned about a large number of suspicious people who spied for Germany and Austria-Hungary, offered to help find and capture them, informed the police about military service evaders and potential revolutionaries. Anonymous messages of suspicious citizens related to the Germans, Poles, Jews, and Chinese people. These sentiments of the revolutionary and post-revolutionary periods increased in the first year of the world conflict. The messages received by the Moscow Security Department correlated with many ideas expressed by soldiers in their letters from the fronts of World War I. The emphasis was placed on certain public hatred towards the Empress and her sister who were suspected of a secret affection for Germany. The Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna were charged with the Khodynka Tragedy, the outbreak of military conflict with Japan, the revolution, and the harmful impact on the Emperor. Protecting Nicholas II from the undesirable influence of relatives, denunciators did not stop thinking about the need to overthrow the monarchy and establish the republican system.
