The author studies Soviet experience of struggle against the alcohol addiction of the population, which is one of the most complicated and urgent social problems of the North indigenous minority nations. The article describes achievements and limitations of the Soviet anti-alcohol campaign of the 1920-s. Special attention is given to the factors preventing from the success of the undertaken measures.
