Antibacterial therapy is the basis for treatment of patients with infectious endocarditis. In 2005 the American heart association published new recommendations for diagnostics, antibacterial therapy and treatment of infectious endocarditis complications that replaced the recommendations of 1995 due to the reduced effectiveness of the formerly accepted chemotherapy regimens caused by growth of the causative agents' resistance. It presents the major provisions of these recommendations related to antibacterial therapy.
