In experiments with rats LIO and mice SHR of local breeding, which usually characterized by high tumor incidence (33-48 %) at end of the lifespan, was studied synthetic phenolic antioxidant phenozan (4-oxy-3,5 di-tret-butylphenylpropionic acid). Phenozan was administered per os by gavage in dose 5 mg/kg (therapeutic dose) 3 times per week for 18 months. Survival rates were similar in controls and phenozan exposure animals. In female rats phenozan statistically significantly decreased total tumor incidence and multiplicity by 30,6 % and 76,3 % accordingly, breast tumors (by 15,8 % and 90 %, accordingly), pituitary gland (by 17,5 % and 63 %, accordingly) and other localizations (by 15,6 % and 75 %). In male rats phenozan statistically significantly decreased only multiplicity of tumors of pituitary gland and lymphoid tissues - by 83,3 %. In mice, females only, phenozan decreased total multiplicity of tumors - on 48,5 % and incidence and the multiplicity of lung tumors - on 22,5 % and 78,1 %, accordingly. Thus phenozan in our experiments inhibited spontaneous carcinogenesis in rats and mice.
