Antibodies against low-weight guanidine neurotoxins as an instrument of detoxication and analytical diagnostic

Human economic activity, as well as a gradual increase of average temperatures in various areas of the world›s oceans leads to a change of the traditional habitats of marine hydrobionts, including poisonous species. This probably leads to contamination of commercial species with toxic substances, such as guanidine toxins - substances with a strong neuroparalytic effect, up to lethal outcome. Tetrodotoxin (TTX) used as a drug in medicine also causes poisoning in case of overdose. A unique feature of TTX is its ability to block Voltage-gated sodium channels exclusively in nerve and muscle cells, without affecting the transmembrane sodium flows in non-excitable tissues, thus providing normal metabolism and general osmoregulation of the organism. In the current project, polyclonal antibodies against TTX were made in Balb/c mice and approbation of antibodies was performed by Competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The obtained data will allow to develop systems of detection and detoxication of guanidine neurotoxins.
