The paper discusses the impact of variations in the calibration factor and background shielding factor on results of estimating cesium-137 in human body based on whole-body counter (WBC) measurements, especially in the long term after the Chernobyl accident. Results of cesium measurements using different devices are compared. It is concluded that with the cesium-137 level in human body decreasing, simple portable WBCs do not seem to be fitting and WBCs with shadow protection, mainly stationary ones, should be used.
