Since 2001, Iran is the main force opposing US and Israeli policy in the Middle East. The Iranian leadership is committed to working with all the forces in the region that are interested in weakening the positions of the USA and Israel. The events of the Arab Spring are actively used by the Iranian elite to strengthen its influence in the region. The idea of the Islamic revolution, despite its obvious dividends received by Iran, has not justified itself in the Tunisian and Egyptian events. In addition, the inability to influence the processes in Libya and Yemen, the ongoing protests in Bahrain and Syria are the major challenges for the Iranian policy. A key element of Iran's foreign policy is Syria, where Bashar Assad's precarious situation makes the future of Iranian influence in the region uncertain.
