At the level of the totality of the subjects of the Russian Federation the article examines the territorial distribution of three meaningfully related phenomena: the life expectancy, the level of per capita income and electoral behavior. Life expectancy is considered as the most important indicator of the development of a region, reliably associated with many socio-economic phenomena. The authors pay the greatest attention to regions with reduced life expectancy. The authors identify three monolithic areas of low longevity. One of them includes a number of regions of the North-West and Central Nonblack Soil Zone, the other - part of the Urals and the North-East of the European part of the Russian Federation. The largest one in terms of territory and a number of regions is the area, which includes the entire Far East, almost all of Eastern Siberia, and some regions of Western Siberia (Eastern area). Most of the subjects of the Russian Federation within the areas of reduced life expectancy also have protest electoral behavior. The worst indicators of life expectancy were in the Eastern area in 2005-2016. The socioeconomic lag of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation that belong to the Eastern area, the protest electoral behavior of their population, combined with the territorial distance from the country's core, and the pressure from strong neighboring states create a special set of risks inherent in this area.
