The article examines verbal activity as the holistic social phenomena of the intellectual-verbal impact, its relation to and differences from language. The definition of verbal activity is stated, its types (informative speech and argumentative speech) are analyzed. Argumentation is seen as an organized in a particular way cognitive structure that can be a quality characteristic of verbal activity.
