The archaic and the modern understanding of the social order: the sacred and violence

The article deals with the ideas of philosophers and sociologists about the significance of sacred in the establishment of social order, a problem of violence, the relationship between religion and violence, or so-called «sacred violence»; the special attention is given to R. Girard's concept, the ritual nature of violence and its role in maintenance of a social order.
