Architectural identity of Volgograd embankments: from historical heritage to contemporary design strategies

The article explores the architectural identity of Volgograd’s embankments as spaces where historical heritage, natural context, and contemporary urban challenges intersect. The paper examines the stages of formation of the city’s riverfronts, from the pre-revolutionary period to modern redevelopment projects. It analyzes the role of cultural memory and socio-cultural codes in shaping Volgograd’s unique image. Particular attention is paid to the loss of identity during the 20th century and the opportunities for its revival through contemporary design methods.
