Architectural and designer features of thermal spa resorts

This article is devoted to the architectural and designer features of thermal resorts, with regard to solving the topical issue of forming and developing the Russian health-and-recreation base. The urgency of this topic for the Ural region is explained. Brief information about the structure of the ancient Roman thermae is given as of a special type of public facilities, which is considered as a cultural and typological basis for building the modern thermal complexes. Historical and modern ways of designing thermae are analyzed by the example of the Baden-Baden thermal complexes in Germany, built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Their architectural, composition and space-planning solutions are studied. The illustrations are given. The correlation between the architectural and designer features of thermal complexes and the modern lifestyle is uncovered. The research draws conclusions on the design specifics of the contemporary multifunctional thermal complexes and on the perspectives of health-and-recreation tourism in Russia.
