Along with the homilies of St. John Chrysostom, which offer valuable information about the history of the Eucharist in the 4th century in Constantinople, the architectural space used for the divine services is one of the most important sources for reconstructing the liturgy of New Rome in the pre-Justinian era. This article is devoted to the study of the layout and architectural forms of the Great Church of Constantinople in the 4th-5th centuries i.e. until the time when Emperor Justinian erected the magnificent Hagia Sophia on the place of the church of Theodosius, which became a model of church architecture for the entire Orthodox East. St. John Chrysostom celebrated the Eucharist in the 4th century in the Great Church and in this church the liturgy that later became a model of worship for the entire Orthodox Church was formed.
