Architectural competitions in the system of state regulation of urban planning activity

The authors raise the question of the need to use architectural competitions as a tool for regulating urban planning activities. The analysis of the current legislation and the experience of accumulated foreign experience in regulating urban planning activities shows the possibility of using the tool of architectural competitions in order to improve the quality of life of citizens. The practice of state regulation in the field of urban planning shows a decrease in the number of competitions held and an increase in custom tenders for the design of facilities. The opportunity to choose the best ideas, new approaches, the involvement of the population and the professional community in the design of facilities and territories, the organization of functional zoning of public spaces is lost. A wider use of the architectural competition tool is possible.
