The article is devoted to one of the most controversial parts of speech in the English language - the article. The purpose of the article is to determine the dependence of the use of the article on the conditions of a particular communicative situation. Morphological, syntactic and communicative functions of the article use are determined. The types of communicative situations that require the use of an article are singled out and systematized, and various ways of constructing situations and conditions for their implementation in the process of speech are commented.
