At the onset of the Great Patriotic War, there were approximately twenty evacuation hospitals operating in Tomsk, but by 1944, their number had decreased to six. Despite this significant reduction, the remaining six hospitals continued to play a crucial role in maintaining the combat readiness of Soviet soldiers and officers. Evacuation hospitals were not limited to providing medical assistance alone. They addressed a wide range of tasks, including provisioning food, organizing military training, conducting cultural activities, maintaining sanitary conditions, and engaging in political work. This study, based on archival data, analyzes various aspects of the operation of evacuation hospitals. Specifically, it examines the challenges they faced, such as shortages of medical resources, organizational difficulties in food provisioning, as well as issues related to sanitary conditions and discipline maintenance. Concurrently, the study identifies successful practices, including the development and implementation of new treatment methods, organization of cultural events, and collaboration with sponsor organizations. The research underscores the significant role of evacuation.
