Auto stereotypes and heterostereotypes of Russians, Bashkirs and Komi-Permyaks article first. Appearance

The article consists of two parts and presents the results of the experiment aimed at studying autostereotypes and heterostereotypes of Russians, Bashkirs and Komi-Permyaks (appearance and character). The first part is devoted to the stereotypes of appearance. The analysis showed that Russians and Bashkirs are guided by the traditional ethnic views about their appearance, while Komi-Permyaks’ autostereotypes are characterized by blurred ethnic self-identification. The core of the autostereotypes and heterostereotypes for Komi-Permyaks’ appearance is the Caucasoid anthropological type, Bashkirs – Mongoloid anthropological type, Russians – Caucasoid anthropological type with certain features (lighter than the European average) and the average European variant. Peripherals stereotypes are the variants of the physical types of ethnic groups.
