A ball-scandal: woe from wit, dead souls, the double

The article analyzez the scandal type of a private chronotopos of a ball in the Russian literature of the first half of the 19 th century. A ball-scandal is viewed as a conclave (L.P. Grossman's term) that discloses essential contradictions between the heroes of a work and provokes its final catastrophe. The material is the texts: Woe from Wit by A.S. Griboyedov, Dead Souls by N.V. Gogol and The Double by F.M. Dostoevsky. Conclusions are drawn about a specific character of this type of the ball chronotopos in the Russian literature of the first half of the 19 th century.
