The balance of family and work: some problems and methods of measurement

The article discusses some problems of the sociological measurement of the work-family balance. The author argues that the work-family balance of a person is determined not only by the presence of objective factors preconditioning the balance, but also by person’s subjective feeling of satisfaction with the manner in which family and professional spheres combine in one’s life. Some scales and measurement techniques used in foreign studies are described.
