The article is devoted to the problem of choosing a profession and professional self-determination of students. The theoretical analysis of traditional and modern approaches to understanding the problem of choice of profession and professional self-determination of students is carried out in the article, the main components of these problems are studied. Based on the generalized results of empirical data, the main barriers to the professional development of students in higher education institutions are described.
