Basis for teaching gerontology at the medical institute «Reaviz»

The article represents the historical roots of gerontological research area at the medical institute «REAVIZ» and describes the conditions of teaching gerontology. Initially gerontological researches in Samara (Kuibyshev) were started by works of ophthalmologist professor T.I. Yeroshevsky, hematologist professor V.A. Germanova, pathologist professor M.V.Uglovoy and their students. Internal medicine department’s staff ofMI «REAVIZ» belongs to Samara therapeutic school of professors Germanovi. Itis a branch of Botkin’s school in Samara, because professor V. Beyer was a teacher ofA.I. GermanovandS.P. Botkin’s third-generation student. It is known that S.P. Botkinwas interested in gerontology issues, whereas hematology is one of the scientific problems of the department since S.P. Botkin to the present days.
