The article discusses the ways the biblical text influences the modern text by J. Barnes. It offers the analysis of the plot and the composition of a recipient text as well as the peculiarities of word usage. The use of precedent phenomena in the text is presented through the interpretation of some well-known biblical facts, additional connotations and possible influence on a reader.
